Paul and Marcel have escaped from Devil's Island, each with a different motivation for that escape. Marcel, a scientist, wants to complete his unfinished work which he believes will be a benefit to the world, namely in the miniaturization of animals, including man, so as not to place as many stresses on the world's limited resources. A former bank executive in Paris, Paul was wrongly convicted 17 years ago of theft and murder in a robbery of his own bank, the crimes actually committed by three of his associates who framed him. He not only wants revenge against the three who still lead a comfortable life as a result, but to clear his name not so much for himself, but for his estranged daughter Lorraine, a laundry employee whom he knows hates him for what she believes he did and is afraid to move on with her life carrying that baggage, the reason she refuses to marry her cabby boyfriend Toto. When Marcel passes away shortly after completing his work, Paul, in Paris in disguise and using an assumed name, teams up with Marcel's wife Malita to carry out his plan of revenge and retribution using an army of miniaturized humans masquerading as dolls. While many things could go wrong, two issues on Paul's side place his plan at risk. First, his and Malita's motivations could end up being incompatible; her end goal is still to miniaturize the animal world in Marcel's name and memory. Second, Paul wants to re-establish a relationship with Lorraine without her discovering his true identity.
