Reshma ran from her house to escape child marriage and reached Madras, where she was sheltered by Ratnamma. Reshma is now grown and a big fan of Superstar Suryakant. She also wants to be a film actress, but a casting director insults her and calls her ugly. One day luck favors her and she gets to be part of a production number in a film. Her erotic expressions impress everyone, but film director Abraham edits it from the film because he finds it too vulgar. Reshma goes to watch the film and is disappointed to find that her song missing. The film is doing very poor business, so an assistant director shows producer Selvaganeshan the erotic-dance song, which he immediately adds to the prints, but Abraham is not happy with it the song becomes very much popular and the film business picks up, making Reshma a known face, Selvaganeshan tracks down Reshma and asks her to work in his films and names her Silk. On the first shooting day she annoys Suryakant and is almost to be thrown out of the film, but things work out between them and shooting starts. Silk soon becomes a star of B-grade films her films run to packed houses. She also meets Suryakant's younger brother Ramakanth and they fall in love, but as Silk achieves stardom, her attitude changes towards everyone and she becomes a heavy drinker and smoker and starts to live lonely life after her star falls.
