Plot
Storyline
A college freshman joins her university's rowing team and undertakes an obsessive physical and psychological journey to make it to the top varsity boat, no matter the cost.
Shy Alex Dall, an 18-year-old from a working-class background, discovers her passion for rowing at a small college. Despite intensive training, Alex is repeatedly outperformed by the talented Jamie. The two make a pact to support each other, but Alex continues to struggle with setbacks. A date with Dani, a former teaching assistant, opens her eyes: In rowing, as in sex, technique is more important than strength, and if Alex can't beat the others with her muscles, she will do so with finesse. Her ambition becomes an obsession, she crosses boundaries, overexerts her body, and jeopardizes her relationships with those around her. How high is the price of success-and will Alex become her own biggest competitor?
