During a routine investigation, small town sheriff and amateur poet Wesley Hart has an experience that rocks him to his core. Riddled with guilt, he leaves his family and peaceful life to roam the countryside to atone for his sins. At a stop along his journey, he runs into a sadistic con artist named Jedidiah and his henchmen who alter his life forever with their cruelty. Taking refuge in the woods, the crippled lawman is soon befriended by a mysterious old man and his daughter, who are being pursued by Hart's very own attackers over a treasure map in their possession. Reluctantly, he agrees to help and is thrown headfirst into a myriad of shootouts and double-crosses. Ultimately left with nothing but the will to rebuild his life and a bitter taste for revenge, Hart returns to his old town, where a chance encounter affords him the opportunity to revisit his past and pursue his own brand of justice against those that have wronged him.
