Before thousands of enthusiastic spectators at the World Cup semi-finals between France and China, a professional assassin murders the famous French coach. The unknown killer even manages to snatch his prized possession from his finger: the priceless Pink Panther diamond ring. To solve the mystery, Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus assigns this challenging case to small-village officer Jacques Clouseau, the most unlikely detective in the force. After all, Dreyfus already knows that the eccentric gendarme is completely out of his depth. As Gendarme Gilbert Ponton keeps an eye on Clouseau, the investigation hits a wall, and questions emerge.
