Plot Storyline
A "Crime Doesn't Pay" morality drama about a young man sentenced to a prison term and attempts by the system to rehabilitate jailed criminals.
The fictional case of Reno Madigan's five member gang of bank robbers highlights the real life goings-on in the federal prison system, which does more than just house criminals for the duration of their sentences. Preceding their capture, Reno began to trust the junior member of the gang the most, he, Joe Cameron, a former vagabond, suspect of authority in the police always hassling him and not giving him a break. That trust was Joe proving himself as a more than capable getaway driver, and in the qualms Reno had with his two other male members, uneducated Bugs Jacklin, and Groper Crane, who was increasingly plagued by paranoid delusions of persecution. Joe was recruited by the fifth and only female member, Kitty Carson, upon a chance meeting she had with him when he was down and out, Joe who seemed willing to do anything asked of him if it gave him that break. While each of Bugs, Groper, Kitty and Joe are given sentences of under five years apiece, Reno is hit the hardest with a twenty year sentence as the mastermind. Regardless, Reno has the medium term plan of having associates break him out, including Joe, the only other member besides him who knows the location of the hidden $33,000 from their last robbery and who, on good behavior, should be out in about a year. But those working in the federal prison system may have other thoughts in providing those that want another path in life with those opportunities, while further punishing those who want to continue to break the law.
