Of small town Texas, Leslie probably believed that winning $190,000 in a lottery would set her for life. But it's six years later, and she's blown it all and then some, mostly on her primary vice: alcohol. In the process, she's burned bridges with most of the people in town, who are no longer willing to help her, she only having one suitcase of possessions and no place to live. The only people who know her that are willing to give her any help at all, but under their rules, are her nineteen year old son James, who long ago moved to the city and who she abandoned in her partying ways, and married "friends" Dutch and Nancy, whose help is only in deference to James who they took in after he was abandoned by Leslie. When she reaches her proverbial third strike with all three in her inability to stay away from the booze, Leslie looks close to the end of her rope, that is until she meets Sweeney, the manager of the local motel who, unlike most townsfolk, never knew Leslie or of her notoriety. Seeing that she is in trouble, he offers her a job, including room and board, at the motel. The questions become how much of Leslie screwing up Sweeney is willing to tolerate before he goes the way of James, Dutch, and Nancy, or if Sweeney's kindness will provide the space Leslie needs to want to get her life back on track.
