After a humbling tie in the final race of the prestigious 2006 Piston Cup racing competition, the brash, self-centred rookie sensation, Lightning McQueen, is desperate to win the crucial tiebreaker race held at the Los Angeles International Speedway. However, instead of sunny California, Lightning McQueen ends up in the dilapidated desert town of Radiator Springs, a dusty city located on the legendary but abandoned Route 66. Now, as the cocky racecar finds himself sentenced to community service, only a miracle could get McQueen back on track. Can Lightning McQueen earn his way back to freedom? Will he learn a thing or two about friendship, family, and the things in life that are truly worth waiting for?
