In war-torn Spain, during the tumultuous 1937, Lluis de Broca, a Republican young officer, along with a small infantry unit rest inactive in a small Spanish village somewhere in the Aragonese battlefront. But there, unexpectedly, Lluis will hopelessly fall for the charms of an older woman and the village lord's widow, Carlana, a deceitful femme-fatale who will not hesitate to use him in her best interest. In the meantime, as Franco's forces concentrate in Madrid, Lluis' closest friend, Juli, urges Lluis to bring back his wife Trini to the safety of the camp, while Barcelona is constantly hammered down.
