In Philadelphia, Sawyer Valentini is an efficient worker in a bank, who left her hometown and her mother Angela Valentini in Boston to flee from a stalker. She blind dates a stranger in a bar but she is still traumatized and has a weird reaction, sending the guy away. When she sees an advertisement of the Highland Creek Behavioral Center, she visits the institution and talks to a psychologist that asks her to fill standard documents to have another session. However, Sawyer was lured and has authorized in an admission form to the hospital for 24-hour observation. She calls the police and when they see the signed form, they leave the hospital. During the night, she fights the inmate Violet and hits a nurse, and the psychiatrist Dr. Hawthorne demands her to stay for one week. Sawyer befriends the patient Nate Hoffman, who tells her that the hospital has a scheme to raise money from the health insurance companies, and there are other patients like her. He asks her to stay calm and wait for the seven remaining days.
