Awarded with the Czech Lion, the documentary by one of the most outstanding documentarians, Miroslav Janek, not only brings viewers a simple insight into the functioning of the organism of the bee colony and the work of beekeepers, but also forces them to think about themselves. The protagonist of the film is the bee, i.e. a very endangered species today, and the secondary hero, or rather the anti-hero, is a man who, thanks to his pride and greed, becomes his own enemy, i.e. another endangered species... "I don't want to talk about how humanity is heading towards degeneration to talk directly and literally through the film, that feeling should be present subliminally, as if weeds were growing inconspicuously through a well-groomed flower bed and thereby spoiling the overall impression," says director Miroslav Janek about his film essay. The film does not discuss beekeeping, as a branch of agriculture, but about beekeeping as such. The community of bees and the fascination with their mysterious and selfless existence is the primary object of interest in the film. In the so far only half-explored system of their community, in the mysterious world of the bee colony, one thing is certain - each bee colony works systematically and tirelessly to preserve the genus, which certainly cannot be said about humanity.
