Valentino [1977 - UK] historical drama

Is a dramatization of the American life and career of silent screen star, Italian immigrant Rudolph Valentino, who was known lovingly by his female fans as the Latin Lover. The story is told in flashbacks as the presentation begins with Valentino's funeral from a premature death in 1926, people attending the funeral reflecting on him and telling his story in relation to them. While he had his adoring fans, that adoration was despite the scandal that pervaded his persona, including his life before his movie career as a gigolo, the studio largely treating him as a commodity who they would allow to languish if it suited their ends, he being charged with and jailed for bigamy, and the innuendo, which he vehemently denied, that he was a closet homosexual.
