Since arriving on Earth more than 350 years ago, Lucien, a demon, has gradually developed a strong aversion to the human species, and became a morose and misanthropic being. Only his job as a bookseller offers him a semblance of comfort, allowing him to spend his days surrounded by what he loves most in this world: used books. However, the peace of mind provided by his job is constantly disturbed as he has to share his days and workspace with the used car salesmen he ferociously despises. Although problematic, the relationship between Lucien and his psychologist, a Machiavellian sociopath, represents the closest thing he has to a social life. His monotonous life is abruptly upended the day his boss announces a radical solution to save the company from imminent bankruptcy: to work with an assistant, Daniel, a young human full of enthusiasm. This decision does not sit well with Lucien, who would rather keep his bookstore a one-man operation. In this strange alliance, the unlikely duo find themselves thrust into a perilous mission, crossing paths with fearsome criminals from the used book mafia and the Great Book Police, led by a ruthless and reckless angel. After this adventure, and an encounter with an intimidating demon, Lucien's life takes an unexpected turn. In Daniel, he discovers not only an accomplice, but also an unusual friend.
