Handsome schoolboy Corey has an instant crush on new girl Brooke, who joins his class having moved with overprotective mother Shannon, who applies for a job in a troubled-kids' home, into her stepfather Andrew's villa, and gets her to become his tutor. Orphan Corey's domineering big brother Hunter, who owes drug dealer Max Verne(r) more then he can raise timely even by armed robbery, sees Brooke as their ticket out by $250,000 ransom and drags unsuspecting Corey and his study buddy Eric along to kidnap her. As Eric tries to talk Corey over or call the police himself, Hunter sneakily kills him. Corey tries to protect Brooke, but is pathologically loyal to his bully-substitute father, who finally promises a bright future. Shannon promised to delivery the cash from Andrew, whom she convinces to leave the police out believing the 'or else' threat, but starts her own investigation, from a tattoo and clues through a foster candidate future charge, leading to Verne's junkie slut and onto the whole bloody truth.
