What's Love Got to Do with It? (2023)

Documentary filmmaker Zoe (Lily James) and doctor Kaz (Shazad Latif) grew up next door to each other and have been best friends since childhood. But now their lives seem to be suddenly moving in different directions, because while Zoe has been trying in vain for a long time to find the love of her life on dating apps, Kaz has decided to let his parents choose his future wife in accordance with Pakistani family tradition. Kaz's decision comes as a shock to Zoe, who does not understand the concept of arranged marriage. But then she makes the best of the situation and asks Kaz if she can document and film his courtship of his unknown wife. She interviews other couples who found love this way, is there with her camera when Kaz first contacts the beautiful Maymouna (Sajal Ali) via Skype, and follows him, his parents and his grandmother to Pakistan for the wedding. While filming, she realizes that she may still be able to learn something from this unfamiliar approach to finding love. At the same time, she flirts with her mother's (Emma Thompson) nice vet. But it soon becomes clear that neither Kaz nor Zoe can truly find happiness on the paths of love they have chosen.
