Plot
Storyline
In 1907, a nurse arrives in the Belgian Congo to work for a missionary doctor but meets a grumpy animal hunter who secretly plans to search for gold in the dangerous Bakuba tribal region.
Ellen Burton (Susan Hayward), a dedicated nurse, arrives in the Belgian Congo n 1907 and persuades animal hunter and guide John Douglas (Robert Mitchum) to lead and accompany her on a trip into the interior to find an old colleague, and they discover has died. When the son of a native chief is badly mauled by a lion, he is tended by her, but the tribe witch doctors take the boy away. However, the chief summons her when the witch doctors fail, and she wins his confidence. But Huysman (Walter Slezak), the greedy partner of Douglas, jeopardizes their safety by going after gold.
