A New York City jury has just found Ann Gray guilty of the murder of Ted Arnold despite her cries of innocence in the matter. She is probably facing the death penalty, so when the opportunity arises in her transport back to prison, Ann escapes custody. She finds refuge with Tony Baxter, a lawyer initially unaware of who she is, his time with her solely in his attraction to her, which will be complicated with the arrival back into town of his on-again/off-again girlfriend/fiancee Betty Randolph who automatically assumes it is on-again as to being engaged with her return. When Tony discovers the woman he is with is Ann Gray, she is able to convince him that she truly is innocent, he in the process helping her try to clear her name. They will not only have to evade the authorities including District Attorney Martin who tried her case, but gangster Smiley Gordon, the actual murderer. Smiley, who orchestrated the car accident that allowed Ann to escape, believes Ann the key to discovering the whereabouts of a missing $250,000 in bonds, he willing to kill again, this time Ann and Tony, once he finds the money.
