Storyline
In the last quarter of the 19th Century, Jacobina, a German descendant living in Rio Grande do Sul (in South of Brazil), claims that Jesus Christ contacted her. She starts a new religion, which the locals call Muckers. Her principles of equality and happiness bother the politicians and the leader of the established Protestant religion. They request the imperial army intervention, and all of Jacobina's followers are murdered.
In the 1870s, Jacobina, daughter of German immigrants to southern Brazil, starts to break with both the Catholic and Lutheran churches to preach physical healing through soul cleansing. After having a divine vision and speaking with Jesus, she suddenly changes her look and usual ways, disturbing the local, ultra-conservative population. After the death of a "mucker" and two others opposing her sect, the local authorities decide to act against her and her followers.
