Anote's Ark

It has been said that those who have had the least impact on climate change are disproportionately most negatively affected by it. Such is the case of the Equatorial Pacific island nation of Kiribati, which, having an average elevation of only 2 meters above sea level, is expected to be totally submerged by the end of the twenty-first century with sea level rise the result of climate change. Additionally, climate change has already led to hurricanes/cyclones hitting the Equatorial Pacific region, something not inherent to the equatorial region in its entirety. On a macro scale, President Anote Tong is trying to deal with the problem, which includes convincing those that matter, such as other world leaders, that climate change is a problem, hence the causes and the results, both current and future. It also includes trying to protect the Kiribati populace who will have no place to live in less than a century, any displacement which would be a disruption to what I-Kiribati know as their life. On a micro scale, the film shows the life of I-Kiribati Tiemeri 'Sermary' Tiare, her husband Ato Raatati Garstang and their young family, who have to make some difficult choices in how to live their life in light of what has happened to Kiribati, most specifically the effects of Cyclone Pam in 2015, and thus if there is a future for them as resident I-Kiribati in seeing what will happen to the island nation.
