Storyline
A sweet little church standing alone in the Croatian landscape, a few scattered trees, an endless sky, and the sun beating down - a simple setting for a caustic satire on mass tourism. Hidden microphones and a telephoto lens capture the endearingly banal exchanges between the kind of holidaymakers who wolf down bulging sandwiches and a Romanesque monument in one sitting.
Autofocus is a short documentary film on how 'auto-focused' people are even when surrounded by breath-taking nature and rare and beautiful historical sites. Every summer, St. Nicholas Church (12th century) draws large crowds of tourists. Situated in an untouched Arcadian landscape, on a picturesque hill and next to a lone tree, it is as if the site becomes a stage where various unusual events take place. Thus, the tourists, unaware of the proximity of the camera, become performers in a daily show.
