Plot Storyline

Paris, 19th century rot. A collector revisits a brothel and finds Venus, a black prostitute posed in antebellum drag. Memory splinters into fantasy. Artist meets muse. Shame and hunger. The film breathes exploitation but occasionally believes its own melancholy.

A cynical art collector wanders a high class brothel where a room decorated like the old American South triggers a vivid, imagined history. He envisions the journey of Venus, a captivating woman who becomes the primary inspiration for a struggling sculptor. Their romance collapses under the weight of poverty and shame, forcing Venus into a spiral of shifting alliances and carnal debts. She navigates the whims of wealthy socialites and vengeful husbands, eventually merging her fate with a young girl named Louise.
