Plot Storyline
Based on Erich Kastner's famous book about two identical-looking girls who meet at summer camp, realize that they're twin sisters, and plan to switch homes for a while.
Two ten-year-old girls who look exactly alike meet at a holiday home on Lake Buhl in the Walsertal valley. The livelier one is called Luise Palfy and comes from Vienna. The quieter one is called Lotte Korner and comes from Munich. Luise's initial consternation, which escalates into anger, gradually gives way to a tender friendship, during which the two children discover that they must be twins: from then on, they search tirelessly but in vain to uncover the secret of their lives. Finally, they decide to swap roles: Luise travels as Lotte to her mother Luiselotte Korner in Munich, and Lotte as Luise to her father, Kapellmeister Ludwig Palfy, in Vienna. Although the two have thoroughly informed each other about the other's life by the end of the vacation, there are of course still many incidents that cause those around them to shake their heads in wonder. Things take a turn for the worse when the father decides to remarry and Lotte falls ill with a severe nervous fever. The mother discovers the secret when she sees a photo of the girls. When Luise confesses everything to her, at least a first reunion of all four is assured.
