Divide and Conquer

The vitally important part that Nazi propaganda has played in the downfall of Norway, France, Poland, and other countries now under the Hitler heel is perfectly portrayed in this subject. Martin Kosleck, cast as Goebbels, is shown issuing instructions to a group of spies and propagandists selected to enter the country chosen for conquest, to take places in the usual walks of life, mix with the populace, make themselves well liked and to keep talking. The instructions are specific in that the keynote of all their conversations is to inculcate fear, foster distrust in the recognized authorities and to spread terror as regards the invincibility of German arms. How well the scheme worked is shown in many shots of the German Army of conquest and the little opposition it encountered in the way of "scorched earth" on the invasion drives. That the same tactics are being attempted here and that many are unwilling dupes to its success is vividly pictured. Knox Manning is responsible for forceful and colorful accompanying narration.
