Khrustalyov, My Car!

In Moscow in 1953, during the paranoia of the "Doctors' Plot," respected military surgeon Yuri Klensky is abruptly arrested by Soviet security forces. Humiliated and beaten, he's dragged through a nightmarish world of prisons and interrogations. Just as suddenly, he's released and rushed off to treat a high-ranking official on his deathbed - almost certainly Stalin. Around the dying leader, terrified functionaries scramble to position themselves for the coming power shift. Broken and discarded by the very system that used him, Klensky is left to wander a society still trapped in chaos and absurdity. The film paints a dark, surreal portrait of Soviet bureaucracy and terror on the eve of Stalin's death.
