Thomas and Alice Kertez married many years ago and are well integrated in a small French coastal town with their growing son. Alice and a friend work there together as doctors. Thomas came from Russia as an orphan, but has broken off all contacts there. One day he receives a police summons, the reason for which remains unclear. Shortly afterwards, a surprising house search follows. The reason: Inspector Sophie Lancelle suspects Thomas of being identical to a long-wanted family murderer. After undergoing facial surgery, he may have assumed a new identity long before his marriage. From now on, friends and colleagues of the family keep their distance and threatening phone calls make her life a living hell. Even Alice's own father suspects Thomas. Her future as a doctor is at stake. Spurred on by the inspector, she investigates herself - and is shocked by her discoveries. But suddenly a witness appears who confirms Thomas' Russian origins. The shadow of suspicion disappears as quickly as it came. But Sophie Lancelle does not give up. Together with a profiler friend, she discovers ever clearer parallels between the family murderer and Thomas Kertez. And then it emerges that the Russian witness was bought by the family murderer's mother. Alice and her son also accidentally come across a photo that makes Thomas an urgent suspect. When they try to secretly leave the family home at night, Thomas reveals himself.
