Plot
Storyline
Superintendent Pichard investigates the death of a toilet attendant.
One morning in Paris, Gaspard Gazul, a bus ticket puncher, enters a public toilet and is later found dead after an explosion. The case is immediately puzzling: the toilet door was locked from the inside, suggesting an impossible crime. The investigation is assigned to Commissioner Pichard and his assistant Inspector Charbonnier. As they pursue the case, the inquiry quickly turns into a series of surreal and nonsensical events, filled with eccentric characters, illogical clues, and grotesque situations. Their investigation takes them from Paris to Marseille, through nightclubs, psychiatric hospitals, flea markets, and prisons. The film parodies classic locked-room mysteries while embracing absurd humor, visual gags, and satire, ultimately revealing the solution in an intentionally ridiculous way.
