Andrea and Franca lead a dignified life: She works in a fashion house; he is an engineer in a construction company. But after a sudden dismissal and his inability to find another job, Andrea fires the maid and takes over her duties. He then manages to find work as a butler for a wealthy lady, Countess Irene, whose image curator is a gay architect who feels attraction towards Andrea and tries to mold him as he pleases, considering him a latent homosexual. During a party organized by the countess, Andrea gets to know an admiral, submits to him the project of a houseboat he has developed, and explains that he is awaiting approval from the ?Navy ministry. Although this conversation irritates the admiral, in the end he will be helped by it.
