When Maria's new husband leaves Portugal to fight in the colonial wars on the day of their marriage, she is left alone, lost and confused. How can she find a passion that will full the void of her unfulfilled marriage? Maria is a young woman reaching adulthood in Portugal in the late 1960s. The loss of her new husband brings a confusion that drives her to look for passion and comfort in dangerous directions.
