Bernardo, Ivana, and Giovanna are siblings; they haven't seen each other for five years, each having gone their separate ways: Bernardo runs a riding stable, Ivana works in construction, and Giovanna is a beautician and has relationships with men much younger than her. Their mother passed away some time ago, and their father, Arnaldo, a university professor who had always been a grumpy and absent parent, has just suffered a heart attack. The doctor at the hospital where the elderly professor is being treated has decided that the nearly blind man can be sent home on supervised discharge, remaining under the care of the facility but able to spend his remaining days with his loved ones.
