Storyline
Popeye the Sailor, accompanied by Olive Oyl and Wimpy, is dispatched to stop the dreaded bandit Abu Hassan and his force of forty thieves.
Popeye, Olive Oyl and Wimpy serve in the Coast Guard, when they hear about a daring attack on an Arabian town by the desert bandit Abu Hassan. The trio fly to Arabia with a flying boat to capture the bandit, but they crash land in the Arabian Desert. Trekking through the desert, the group finds its way to the town which the Forty Thieves are routinely attacking. During his first contact with Hassan, Popeye engages in a game of one-upmanship with Hassan. Hassan tires of the game, quickly incapacitating Popeye and looting the town. As Hassan and his bandits leave the town, they take Olive and Wimpy with them as hostages. After Popeye recovers, he tracks down Hassan to the secret cave which serves as the bandit's hideout. Easily breaking into the cave with a makeshift blowtorch, Popeye confronts Abu Hassan and issues an ultimatum. Hassan incapacitates Popeye again. and then throws him into the shark pit where he habitually executes his foes. Popeye defeats the shark and emerges from the water unharmed. Eating his spinach to get a power boost, Popeye single-handedly knocks out each of the Forty Thieves. The Thieves and Hassan are chained and made to drag a cart filled with the stolen loot. Popeye leads them back to the Arabian town, where he is welcomed as a liberator.
