Site Unseen: An Emma Fielding Mystery

The late archaeology professor Fielding lost his reputation, unable to prove that Jamestown wasn't the first English settlement in North America. His daughter Emma, now also professor, hopes to set that straight using a map pointing to her native tourist/fishing town on the coast of Maine. The dig, organized under her mentor Tony Markham's auspices, is most promising. Then a recent corpse is found in a dig square: local lush Augie, who vaguely threatened her the evening before. Strange things keep happening, like theft of the map copy, sabotage of the dig site to disable the most crucial dating, fire at the farm house of Emma's host-friend Adelle and theft of her beloved statue. FBI Special Agent Jim Connor can't officially deputize Emma, but she, having studied forensic medicine, and brilliant student Joe prove invaluable in fact. Among the suspects are art and artifact thieving gangs and, possibly associated, Emma's ex-con junkie school boyfriend, now a fisherman and smuggler.
