Tanzanie, de Zanzibar a Kilwa

Beginning of the journey in Stone Town, Zanzibar: this place of Africa has been famous because its spice trade and the slavery.In the old the Indian house doors are quite famous (there were made with teak wood.This island produces a lot of spices;: cardamom, turmeric, annatto cloves and ginger.In the National park of Jozani we can see the Zanzibar red colobus.Later we visit a seaweed plantation, the leaves are dried and the powder is used as cosmetic.We meet fishermen, on the beach there is a fish market.Not far we meet a shipwright who uses mango tree wood for the fishing boats.Back to Stone Town we listen to tarab, a music which comes from Egypt.In front of Stone Town there is the Changuu island, used by the Omanis as jail for the slaves and later by the British Empire as quarantine center.Now we go to Pemba island, which is famous for the cloves: we see the harvest and preparation of the cloves.On Sunday the villagers dance and make a corrida.In the north of the island a natural park for local bats.There we see also a fish market on the beach.Now we travel to Mafia Island: this island was sold by the Oman sultanate to the Germans in 1890 but later was belonging to the British Empire: a street vendor prepares chapati, a typical Indian food.In one lagoon one NGO is protecting the young tortoises which have born in the beach helping them to reach the sea.Not fat there a marine park where the divers can observe whale sharks.An Australian couple manages a tree hotel (baobab tree).Then we go to the mainland at Kilwa: agricultural activities and fishing.This place has been mentioned by the famous geographer Ibn Battuta.There are a lot of old buildings (mosques) of the Oman sultanate period.
