Storyline
While awaiting execution for murder, Baron Victor Frankenstein tells the story of a creature he built and brought to life - only for it to behave not as he intended.
It's the mid-nineteenth century in a small town in the Swiss Alps. Incarcerated Baron Victor Frankenstein calls in a priest as a last resort, not to receive his last rites in imminently being executed, but to save himself from that execution in telling someone, anyone with some authority, his truth which is contrary to the crime for which he has been convicted. Not quite as he tells it, the truth follows which indeed is slightly contrary to why he was convicted. A friend since childhood in Victor hand picking him as his tutor, Paul Krempe became his mentor in his quest especially for scientific knowledge. Only known to the two of them in their work behind the locked doors of Victor's laboratory, they began experiments in regeneration of animal life, in other words bringing back the dead. They succeeded in doing so, their first successful subject a dog. Victor, however, began to have grander dreams, not only of bringing back humans from the dead, but to create his perfect human by choosing the best parts from different humans. Victor's goal led to Paul distancing himself from Victor and the work. Paul began to be concerned for the safety of those in Victor's midst if Victor succeeded in his goal, most specifically but not limited to Victor's cousin/fiancee Elizabeth, who was oblivious the work in the laboratory. While he may not have been concerned about things that Victor ended up doing in getting the "best", Paul was concerned about Victor's singular focus on the work which could cloud his judgment of right and wrong.
