The Darktown Revue

The Darktown Revue is an American Pre-Code short film by Oscar Micheaux. It's his first short venture into sound film. The film opens with the choir singing a rendition of "Watermelon Time." Then there's a vaudeville act with the comedy duo of Tim Moore and Andrew Tribble doing a routine about a haunted house. Later a minstrel performer gives a comic sermon of gibberish that is a scathing satire of charismatic religion, made even more troubling by the fact that it is performed by a black man, Amon Davis, in black-face.
