Plot Storyline

At the dawn of WW2, a young soldier encounters a wounded fox cub and takes it with him to occupied France. The story of an unlikely friendship.

Seven-year-old Franz grows up as the youngest of nine children in a farming family. Driven by hardship and deprivation, his parents give him away to another farmer. Although he is fed, he is forced to do hard physical labor and is treated like an animal. Finally old enough, he leaves the farm and enlists in the Austrian Armed Forces. During the Stalemate, a young, injured fox runs up to him. Although the fox is free, it keeps returning to Franz. When he is transferred to Russia, Franz reluctantly releases the little fox.
