Captivated by an exciting lecture on a famous Phoenician treasure lost at sea after the Peloponnesian War, ambitious law student Gerard decides to embark on a summer adventure off the coast of Corsica. After all, the Parisian thrill-seeker is confident that he knows the location of the sunken riches. With his pockets crammed with borrowed francs and long-necked amphorae filled with ancient gold coins waiting to be discovered, Gerard persuades cynical cigarette smuggler Eric to take him to the Lavezzi Islands. But there, young love awaits Gerard in the shape of statuesque Manina, the light-keeper's 18-year-old daughter. As greed and lust enter the equation, the question arises: who gets to claim the gold?
