The Hi-Lo Country

The Hi-Lo Country is a barren pastureland in New Mexico in the southern United States. Cowboys Pete Calder and Big Boy Matson met before World War II and have been best friends ever since. Both fought overseas as soldiers. With the little money he has saved, Pete is now trying to build up his small ranch, and Big Boy, who works as a cowboy for his friend, the rancher Hoover, supports him as best he can. During their time in the army, the large landowner Jim Ed Love industrialized cattle breeding in their area and made a fortune. Even Big Boy's little brother, Little Boy, now works for him. But for Pete and Big Boy, freedom and life in the fields are more important than a steady income. Nothing can separate the two friends - until Mona reappears. Pete had already had his eye on her before the war. But now, to make matters worse, she is married to the foreman of his adversary Jim Ed Love. Pete then turns to Josepha, who has loved him for a long time. Big Boy, on the other hand, enjoys the risky game and becomes Mona's lover. This puts their friendship to the test, because Pete can't stop thinking about Mona. In addition, Big Boy continues to fuel the rivalry between the traditional cowboys and the industrial cattle ranchers. This also brings him into conflict with his little brother, who is loyal to his boss. Emotions boil over, and Pete finds himself in the eye of the storm with his conflicting feelings.
