Storyline
A gangster is jailed for ten years after his wife becomes pregnant. He becomes bitter when she divorces him and remarries.
Gangland kingpin Joe Krozac (Edward G. Robinson) returns from a European trip with a new bride, Talya (Rose Stradner), who is unaware of her husband's notoriety. As Joe reclaims his lost territory, Talya becomes pregnant, much to Joe's delight. Before his son is born, however, Joe is sent to Alcatraz for ten years on charges of income tax evasion. When Talya visits Joe with their infant son, newspaper reporter Paul North (James Stewart) plays a joke on Talya by putting a gun in the baby's hands in a photograph. Paul is later ashamed and quits the newspaper. He and Talya begin a relationship and later change their names and move away to start a new life after Talya divorces Joe. When Joe is freed from prison, he is determined to find his ex-wife and son. But he is intercepted by his former gang who torture Joe to make him reveal his hidden money. When Joe resists the torture, the gang locate and kidnap his son to force him to reveal the money. Though his son refuses to believe Joe is really his father, they are forced to bond in order to escape the gang and return home safely, all while a vengeful gangster hunts for Joe.
