Storyline
Reconstruction of the last Indian rebellion of Mocovies in San Javier, north of the province of Santa Fe, in 1904. Silent Movie.
Argentina, Gran Chaco region. A silent film depicting the uprising of 900 Mocovi people in San Javier, Santa Fe Province, on April 21, 1904. It begins with a documentary-style portrayal of indigenous life, then shifts to events leading up to the rebellion. The old, corrupt leader Bernardo Lopez received a portion of stolen land from the gringos and lived comfortably with his young companion, Rosa Paiqui. When he sees her dancing with his brother, Jesus Salvador Lopez, at a party, he becomes enraged and exiles her to an island. Salvador initiates a revolt against the wealthy gringos, which ultimately fails. He rescues Rosa from the island, and they ride away together while the indigenous people flee into Gran Chaco.
