Plot
Storyline
In a miserable neighbourhood of Napoli, two brothers make totally different choices for their lives. The boy joins the Communist Party, while his sister follows the way of the church.
A chronicle of a group of Neapolitans in a modest neighborhood from 1944 to 1976. The Pagano family: the father is a communist shoemaker; the mother, a Venetian Catholic, dies of a miscarriage; the son, Massimo, works for the Communist Party from a very young age, while his sister, Vittoria, dreams of America. Valeria, the neighbor, sold her daughter, Rosa, to an American soldier to survive at the end of the war. Rosa then lives as a recluse, while her mother remarries Simonetti, a Spanish anti-Franco refugee. There is also Palumbo, a landlord and opportunistic lawyer; Rosaria, the French prostitute; and Ferrante, the owner of a small factory.
