The Thief of Bagdad

In ancient Persia, Ahmad is the young king, sheltered and naive in trusting one of his advisers, Jaffar, the Grand Vizier, to provide him with accurate information on what is happening in the kingdom. Jaffar, self-interested in wanting to rule himself, is able to get Ahmad arrested, and sentenced to death. In prison, Ahmad is befriended by Abu, a young street thief who is also scheduled to be executed. Able to escape, Ahmad and Abu plan on leaving the kingdom forever to avoid recapture and death, that is until Ahmad meets and falls in love with a princess, the daughter of the Sultan of Basra. Ahmad does not realize that his love for her once again places him the cross-hairs of Jaffar who is in love with the Princess himself, he, in the process, placing a curse on both Ahmad and Abu, the lifting of the curse only when he "wins". As Ahmad and Abu become separated, they go on different missions, Ahmad to reunite with the Princess, and Abu to help his friend evade recapture. What happens is affected by Abu discovering a genie, angry at his long imprisonment in a corked bottle.
