Plot
Storyline
A decade after being ostracized for coming out to his strict, Southern Baptist family, rising country star Brandon Stansell is going home.
Documents the lead up to and the event of country musician Brandon Stansell's first ever show in his hometown of Chattanooga, TN. The issue is that he, at age twenty-two, had what ended up being a very acrimonious coming out with his fundamentalist Southern Baptist family ten years earlier, that issue never having been resolved in the family not accepting of his homosexuality. The questions then become what sort of reception he will receive, not only by the general public, but most specifically by his family, it not a guarantee that any of the latter will show up or give him a warm welcome, whereas a famous hometown boy in most circumstances would generally receive an enthusiastic homecoming. Compounding the issue is that there is not a strong history of homosexuality in country music, and that his music is very personal to his own experience, his family life included in that experience. In that light, he also discusses the discrimination he has faced in being told things that would have never been said to someone openly or presumed straight, and the homophobia he perpetrated before he came out despite knowing that he was queer but closeted.
