Whoever Slew Auntie Roo?

In England in the 1920s, a kindly American millionaire and widow named Mrs. Forrest, a.k.a. Auntie Roo, welcomes 10 orphans from a local orphanage to spend Christmas Eve with her every year at her mansion, Forrest Grange. Mrs. Forrest misses her little daughter, Katharine, who died in a silly accident, and is being exploited by a medium named Mr. Benton, her butler, Albie, and her housekeeper, Clarine, with phony seances. When the orphaned siblings Christopher and Katy Coombs are not chosen to go to the Christmas party, they sneak out to Mrs. Forrest's mansion and she welcomes them inside. She feels a great attraction to Katy, who resembles Katharine, but Christopher suspects that the widow is actually a witch who wants to eat both of them for her supper.
